Research Interests

My primary interests are biological effects of space weather on sleep, activity level, mood, and biological rhythms.

My future goal is to find the underlying mechanisms.

An experience that convinced me of the importance of the research topic was my work experience as a bus driver at a preschool in Yokohama, Japan. One day in May 1996, I was waiting for the signal to turn green on a three-lane road. A man approached me, saying, "It's the thought that counts, right? Take it," and gave me fresh bananas. On the day, most of the children on the bus were agitated. Later, I found that it was the very day when severe space weather events occurred.
